Why is TikTok Shop paying me less than my earnings?

The 7 reasons your payout is smaller than your sales
Add these up and the typical TikTok Shop seller nets roughly two-thirds of GMV. Each line is a separate deduction on your settlement statement:
1. Referral (commission) fee
TikTok's core cut. As of 2026: 6% in the US (5% for jewelry), 9% in the UK (5% for Electronics/Beauty), 9% across the EU (raised from 5% on January 8, 2026), and 1–10% banded by category in Indonesia. It's charged on the buyer-paid amount plus platform discount, minus tax.
2. Transaction (payment processing) fee
Roughly 2% of the order, taken to process the payment.
3. Affiliate & creator commissions
If a creator drove the sale, their commission (you set the rate, often 8–20%) comes straight out of your settlement.
4. The 20% refund administration fee
This is the one that surprises people. On a refund, TikTok keeps a fee equal to 20% of the original referral fee, capped at $5 per SKU. It's meant for completed, post-shipment refunds only.
5. Seller discounts & vouchers
Any discount you funded reduces your settlement—sometimes double-counted with the fee base if you're not careful.
6. Shipping costs & insurance
TikTok Shop shipping fees, return shipping, signature confirmation, and insurance all net out here.
7. Reserve holds — settlement ≠ payout
Even after all fees, your settlement amount is not your bank deposit. TikTok may hold a portion in a reserve (released later), shown on the Reserve Details sheet for transactions after Sep 25, 2025. This is the #1 reason the number you see and the money that lands don't match.

Is TikTok overcharging you? The 5 things actually worth checking
Honest take: there's no secret systematic bug—most of the gap is the fees above, working as designed. But these five are real deviations from TikTok's own written rules and are worth disputing if you find them:
| Check | The rule |
|---|---|
| Refund admin fee over the cap | Must not exceed $5 per SKU |
| Refund admin fee on a pre-ship cancel | Only applies to completed, post-ship refunds |
| Referral fee not credited back | 80% should return on a completed refund |
| Affiliate commission not reversed | Pre-payout commissions should be clawed back on refund |
| Referral fee base looks wrong | Base = Buyer-Paid + Platform Discount − Tax |
TikTok Shop fee rates by region (2026)

Frequently asked questions
Why is my TikTok Shop payout less than my earnings dashboard?
The earnings/GMV number is your sales before fees. Your payout is after the referral fee, transaction fee, affiliate commissions, discounts, shipping, any refund admin fees — and minus any reserve hold. The gap is usually ~33% of GMV.
What is the TikTok Shop refund administration fee?
A fee equal to 20% of the original referral fee (capped at $5 per SKU) charged when a buyer is refunded. It should only apply to completed, post-shipment refunds.
Is my settlement amount the same as my payout?
No. Settlement = revenue − fees + adjustments. Your bank payout is settlement ± a reserve TikTok temporarily holds or releases.
How do I check if TikTok overcharged me?
Export your settlement statement (Seller Center → Finances → Statements) and run it through a reconciler like the free MyEcomSuite auditor, which flags lines that break TikTok's own fee rules.
